Game Dev - Recruitment and difficult studios

Getting work in the game dev industry isn't easy; it often takes months of searching, emailing and waiting until you finally get the offer you want. Game studios on a whole are fairly relaxed and casual people. Occasionly you will encounter a studio that is difficult for one reason or another.

Often these studios are difficult because your point of contact is stressed, overworked or pushing to get work done. It's a stressful industry. This isn't a discussion on the stress of the industry - if you're in it you already know all about it, if not you'll be exposed to it soon enough.

The one thing I want to stress is professionalism. While game studios are casual affairs (for the most part) they are none the less a business. For that reason I stress that If the studio doesn't treat you in a professional manner then cease contact with that studio. Even if it seems to be the perfect job you will be setting yourself up for a lot of difficulty in the future. Don't do it.

To any studios out there reading and this only applys to a very select few. Treat your applicants and your staff with respect and dignity and treat them as professionals. The industry in australia is small enough without difficulty in communicating.
